🚗 Driving & Road Safety

  • Know the Rules: We drive on the right side of the road in Rhodes. Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers, and using a mobile phone while driving is strictly prohibited.
  • Watch for Hazards: Be alert for grazing goats on rural roads and drive cautiously as local driving can occasionally be reckless.
  • Vehicle Choice: Opt for compact cars or scooters. When using a scooter be sure to rent also a helmet from the rental company. Renting a buggy is also an option and can be a fun vacation experience, but these vehicles carry significant risks of serious injury, rollovers, or collisions if operated incorrectly, especially in unfamiliar, busy, or challenging terrain.
  • Off-Road Warning: Most standard rental insurance does not cover driving on unpaved roads. Avoid "scenic routes" that aren't tarmac unless you have a 4x4. 

🅿️ Parking Strategy

  • Rhodes Town: Finding parking in the city center is a major challenge. Look for blue road signs with a white "P." Blue-lined spaces usually require a ticket from an automated machine (approx. €1.50 per hour).
  • Free Parking Hack: Use the Akatatia Free Parking area, which offers a free shuttle bus to the city center—but arrive before noon as it fills up quickly in peak season.
  • Lindos Parking: The village center is car-free. Park in the designated lots outside the village. If you're heading to the beach, try the St. Paul’s Bay parking rather than the main village lots to save on walking distance. 

🚶 Walking & Exploration

  • Old Town Surfaces: The Medieval City is full of cobblestones. Wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes rather than flip-flops to avoid injury.
  • Beat the Heat: In July and August, temperatures can exceed 40°C. Visit popular sites like the Lindos Acropolis or the Street of the Knights before 9:00 AM or after 5:00 PM to avoid the midday sun and cruise ship crowds.
  • Cruise Passenger Tip: If you are arriving by ship, the Old Town is just a short walk from the Marine Gate or St. John Gate. Taxis are generally unnecessary for visiting the historic center. 

🚌 Public Transport & Taxis

Two Bus Companies: RODA (Blue/White buses) serves the West Coast and City, while KTEL (Orange/White buses) serves the East Coast, including Faliraki and Lindos.
